The European Commissioner for Budget, Valdis Dombrovskis, stated that the European executive will not propose the suspension of EU funds for Romania, highlighting the significant fiscal measures adopted by the Bolojan government to reduce the budget deficit. Romania is in an excessive deficit procedure and risks the suspension of European funds if it does not take swift action.
Dombrovskis mentioned that the European Commission's assessment recognized Romania's effective actions, which led to the decision not to propose the suspension of funds at this stage. Among the measures adopted by the Bolojan government are the cutting of bonuses for public employees, the increase of VAT, and the elimination of tax payment exemptions.
