The Chamber of Deputies has adopted a bill that allows individuals in detention to be brought before the court only if the judge deems it necessary.

The Chamber of Deputies, in its capacity as a decision-making body, adopted on Wednesday a draft law initiated in 2025 to amend the Criminal Procedure Code. This amendment stipulates that individuals in detention should be brought before the court only in cases where the judge considers it absolutely necessary.

Alina Gorghiu, the initiator of the project on behalf of PNL, emphasized that the adopted form responds to the requests of the President of Romania and ensures a balance between streamlining procedures and respecting fundamental rights. The law introduces clear rules, allowing participation via videoconference under conditions that guarantee the right to defense.

This legislative solution aims to shorten trial deadlines, eliminate delays, and increase the efficiency of the justice system, having a direct impact on the judicial system. Gorghiu stated that the project addresses a real need for a more efficient justice.
