The Bucharest City Hall announced its intention to purchase between 79 and 100 new trams, aimed at both improving the existing network and extending the tram line in Prelungirea Ghencea. The first tram will be delivered nine months after the contract is signed.

The municipality has initiated a public consultation to gather opinions regarding the specifications, with the aim of identifying available technical solutions and assessing the capacity of manufacturers. The trams will have a completely low floor, five double doors, a capacity of at least 310 passengers, and will be equipped with modern technologies.

The project is part of the Bucharest-Ilfov Regional Program 2021-2027, and Bucharest will benefit from 266 million euros from the European Investment Bank for the modernization of the tram network. The funding will be used for the rehabilitation of the lines, the purchase of new trams, and the modernization of depots, with the aim of increasing the efficiency of public transport and reducing traffic congestion.
