Parliamentarians approved an AUR amendment allocating 5,000 euros from the state budget to an association that positions itself against abortion, "Clujul pentru Viață". A deputy stated on Digi24 that "we did not know what we were voting for".

The state budget for 2026 was adopted with an amendment proposed by AUR, which allocates 5,000 euros to an anti-abortion association, 'Clujul pentru Viață'.

George Simion, the leader of AUR, stated that the party supports women's right to choose, but positions itself 'on the side of life, not on the side of death'.

In a dialogue with journalists, Simion explained that he does not support associations that promote abortion, believing that decisions should not be influenced by NGOs.

The amendment was voted 'by mistake' by the ruling party's parliamentarians, and 368 parliamentarians voted in favor, including from PSD, PNL, USR, and UDMR.

"We did not know what we were voting for," said a coalition deputy for Digi24.ro. "Now we are trying to see what it is about," another said immediately after the vote.

It is worth mentioning that, in Romania, an INSCOP survey shows a majority of young people are anti-abortion (58.4% against, 35.5% in favor), while public infrastructure for abortion is already almost non-existent at the level of state hospitals.
