The Special Telecommunications Service (STS) has conducted the first tests for a secure communication system via the internet on board military aircraft C-27J Spartan.

This initiative was generated by the observations of President Nicușor Dan, who highlighted the lack of connectivity during external trips. The Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, announced that the system cannot be activated until the aircraft manufacturer confirms that there are no interferences with the other systems on board. If the manufacturer responds quickly, the aircraft could be equipped with secure internet for the president's next international trip. Until now, there had been no official requests for the installation of such systems, and the STS has identified solutions for secure communication services. The army has 7 C-27J Spartan aircraft, which can be configured for VIP transport, including by installing a special kit that allows for a business-type configuration.
