In the morning of October 24, the Ukrainian military and specialists from the Ministry of Defense found that Starlink and Starshield services were once again operating at speeds exceeding 161 km/h. The tests are being conducted to determine the connection’s upper limits and the extent to which the military service has been restored.
Ukrainian troops continued monitoring the systems after restrictions introduced abruptly affected drone operations. Equipment connected to Starshield lost its connection when traveling faster than 100 miles per hour, while authorities in Kyiv initially did not know whether this was a technical malfunction or a deliberate decision.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the speed had not been fully restored and criticized the lack of prior communication, as well as delays in delivering American interceptors for Russian ballistic missiles.
President Donald Trump said Elon Musk had restored the military service’s full functionality. The statement came after reports that Musk had allegedly ordered the connection to be slowed amid tensions between Washington and Kyiv.
The resumption of Starlink’s operation is taking place alongside diplomatic efforts concerning the war in Ukraine. Following a prisoner exchange, the parties announced a partial ceasefire to evacuate the city of Oleşki, with U.S.-mediated peace talks set to resume next month.
