Trade unionists and the staff of TAROM company protested on Tuesday, accusing the Government of planning to dismantle the national airline operator. The President of the United Trade Union of TAROM (SUT), Narcis Pașcu, stated that TAROM must remain a state company, having an essential role in emergency situations. On April 28, SUT will organize a rally in Victory Square, where legal actions against the Government will be discussed.
Trade unionists complain about the lack of dialogue and managerial instability, mentioning that TAROM has had 17 directors changed in the last three years. They also contest the accusations regarding overstaffing, stating that the current number of employees is below that approved by the European Commission. TAROM is considered a critical infrastructure for Romania, and its dismantling would have severe economic and social consequences. SUT demands a moratorium on dismantling decisions and transparency in the implementation of the restructuring plan.
