Simina Tănăsescu, the president of the Constitutional Court, stated that she will distance herself from the decision of the majority of the CCR judges regarding the provision in the Integrity Law that could lead to the termination of the mandate of the mayor of Timișoara, Dominic Fritz. Tănăsescu confirmed that she will draft a separate opinion, in which she will argue why she believes this provision is unconstitutional.
"There is a decision of the Court. It will be made known through publication in the Official Gazette. It is a decision of the Court, adopted by a majority, but that is the decision of the Court, which maintains that the provision is not unconstitutional. There will be one, two, three, I am not yet clear exactly how many, but there will also be separate opinions that will support the contrary. I can try to explain why I, personally, appreciate it differently and, in the separate opinion that I will draft, I will explain why I believe that such a provision is unconstitutional. I cannot argue in the opposite sense," said Simina Tănăsescu.
