Rail passenger rail travel fell by 7.5% in Q1 2025, while freight transport fell by 18.5%

INS data show a significant drop in the number of passengers traveling by train to 16.102 million, and a reduced rail passenger journey by 8.1%. Freight transportation took a hit, down 18.5%, although transit increased 47.7%. Coke and refined petroleum products accounted for the largest shares of freight. Most technical and economic indicators developed negatively, except for the average running time of wagons and the average commercial speed of freight trains.
