In 2025, Romania recorded a decrease in road accidents, with 285 fewer accidents and 185 deaths compared to 2024.

According to data presented by the Romanian Police, the year 2025 marked a significant decrease in road accidents, with 3,950 recorded events, 1,293 deaths, and 3,125 seriously injured individuals. Compared to 2024, there were 285 fewer accidents (-6.7%), 185 fewer deaths (-12.5%), and 122 fewer seriously injured individuals (-3.7%). The most common causes of accidents were illegal crossing, speed adaptation issues, and failure to give way.


The police carried out 67,126 actions to prevent accidents and applied 2,792,044 contraventional sanctions. Additionally, an automatic traffic monitoring system, e-SIGUR, was implemented to improve road safety.
