PNL MEP Siegfried Mureșan sent a congratulatory message to the Bulgarian neighbors after Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone. Although there is disappointment that Bulgaria joined before Romania, Mureșan emphasizes that if Bulgaria meets the necessary criteria, this deserves recognition. Bulgaria adopted the euro at midnight, thus becoming the 21st country in the eurozone, nearly two decades after joining the European Union in 2007. By switching to the euro, Bulgaria hopes to strengthen its economic ties with other eurozone member states and avoid a possible increase in prices in an unstable political context.
