The police officers of the Economic Crime Investigation Service in Neamț, under the coordination of prosecutors from the Prosecutor's Office next to the Neamț Tribunal, carried out 17 searches on Wednesday in the counties of Neamț, Bistrița-Năsăud, Cluj, Buzău, and Mureș, in a criminal case targeting the establishment of an organized criminal group and the illegal obtaining of public funds. The estimated damage exceeds 2.2 million lei.
In the period 2022-2025, 29 individuals and 20 legal entities were allegedly involved in a complex mechanism for defrauding public funds. Following the action, several pieces of evidence were discovered and seized, and two suspects, a 50-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman from Bistrița-Năsăud, were detained for 24 hours. The action benefited from the support of the General Directorate of Police of Bucharest and the police inspectorates in the involved counties.
