Prosecutors carried out 13 house searches in Bucharest, Giurgiu and Ilfov, targeting four people suspected of committing several extortion offenses. They are part of a network that offered loans to vulnerable people addicted to gambling or drugs and then blackmailed them to get their money back. The raids were carried out on members or close associates of underworld gangs suspected of carrying out acts of extortion using their reputation for violence.
