The leadership of the SANITAS Federation has been mandated to negotiate with the Government for the exemption of Health and Social Assistance from the 10% reduction of the salary fund, as well as to block any measures that could affect employees' incomes. Following a meeting of the National Council, the unionists assessed the impact of austerity measures on public systems and concluded that these could severely affect the functioning of healthcare units and the incomes of staff. The majority of members voted in favor of initiating a general strike if their demands are not addressed. The president of SANITAS, Iulian Pope, emphasized that employees cannot be victims of austerity policies, considering the staff shortage and chronic underfunding. The Federation remains open to dialogue but will not accept measures that compromise the stability of incomes and the functioning of essential services.
