Saint Cuvios Dimitrie the New Basarabov is celebrated on October 27, becoming a symbol of faith for the Orthodox in Romania. The pilgrimage to the shrine with his relics at the Patriarchal Cathedral is an emotional moment for thousands of believers. Born in the 13th century in Bulgaria, Dimitrie lived a hermit's life, being discovered after his death in 1685, when his body was found incorrupt. His relics were brought to Bucharest during the Russo-Turkish war, becoming the protector of the city in 1792. The celebration includes religious services and traditions of charity, and the day is dedicated to prayer and rest, marking the beginning of preparations for winter.
