The Russian ambassador to Bucharest, Vladimir Lipaev, stated to the RIA Novosti agency that the Romanian authorities have chosen the path of confrontation with Russia by supporting Ukraine, including through military assistance.
Vladimir Lipaev emphasized that the political dialogue between the two countries has been frozen, and economic cooperation has been interrupted, with contacts in most areas being suspended. The ambassador criticized the condescending tone of Romanian leaders towards Russia and stated that Russian diplomats do not interfere in the affairs of others. He also mentioned that Romania could be used as a "bridgehead" for a conflict with the Russian Federation, in the context of the increasing American military presence in the country.
Lipaev recalled that the U.S. does not abandon direct military threats against Russia, referring to the deployment of Aegis Ashore missile defense systems in Romania. The Russian embassy does not have optimistic expectations regarding the improvement of bilateral relations, given their extremely low level.
