The Romanian Administration of Air Traffic Services (ROMATSA) has contested the blocking of payments collected through Eurocontrol, imposed by Pfizer Romania SRL, in a lawsuit that will be heard on July 28 at the Court in Brussels, reports News.ro.
Currently, ROMATSA's accounts are blocked, limiting the financial resources of the air traffic operator for several weeks, which could severely affect the safety of air traffic and NATO missions on the eastern flank.
In this context, the Ministry of Defense could take over the management of airspace, according to interim minister Radu Miruță.
It is worth noting that ROMATSA has been notified by Eurocontrol regarding a precautionary seizure of 3.42 billion lei. This is the third such situation that ROMATSA is facing through the collection mechanism administered by Eurocontrol. The previous ones were recorded due to the Micula brothers, Viorel and Ioan, against the Romanian state, in 2015 and 2019, according to News.ro.
The management of ROMATSA emphasizes that it is not the debtor of the obligation that generated the seizure and requests a swift resolution of the dispute to ensure the continuity of air navigation services.
