Radu Miruță, the Minister of Defense, stated that the deployment of F-16 fighter jets following alerts related to Russian drones has become a common practice, considering Russia's constant attacks on Ukrainian ports along the Danube. He explained that, depending on the situation, the jets are deployed preventively to monitor potential threats that could enter Romanian airspace. This occurs especially in the Izmail area, where Russian attacks are frequent. Miruță emphasized that, in recent days, there have been almost daily deployments of F-16 jets, in collaboration with the NATO center in Torrejón, Spain, to ensure national security.
