Dozens of Romanians have been repatriated from Dubai with the support of the European Union, which activated the civil protection mechanism to help citizens return home safely. The first two aircraft landed at Otopeni airport, one after midnight and the other on Thursday morning. The repatriation operations are partially funded by the EU, which covers up to 75% of the costs, provided that at least 30% of the passengers have a nationality other than that of the requesting state. The pilots made a two-hour detour to ensure the safety of the passengers, many of whom were concerned about the situation in Dubai. Over 3,000 Romanians have requested assistance at the consulate, but only 500 managed to catch a flight. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is monitoring another 15,000 people, and those wishing to travel through Oman are advised to arrive well in advance of departure due to heavy traffic.
