Gheorghe Piperea, Adrian Axinia and Georgiana Teodorescu, Romanian MEPs from the ECR group, sent an open letter to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, regarding the explosion of a Ukrainian drone in the Port of Constanța on June 5, 2026.

The incident caused material damage and panic, without casualties, but raised concerns about the security of the Black Sea coastal states. The MEPs are seeking explanations from Ukraine and assurances that the drones used in the area do not pose a danger to the population.

They also emphasize the lack of response from Romanian authorities and the risks associated with such incidents, which could severely affect the national economy and public support for Ukraine.

The letter also calls for measures to prevent similar incidents in the future, considering the previous incident in Greece and concerns related to the involvement of EU member states in the conflict.
