The head of the Romanian Customs Authority (AVR), Mihai Savin, was detained along with two other officials from the institution following an operation carried out by the Prosecutor's Office next to the Bucharest Court of Appeal at the central headquarters of Customs in Bucharest and in Galați.
Mihai Savin was detained for allegedly issuing a retroactive mission order, aimed at saving the driving license of an employee.
He took over the leadership of the Romanian Customs Authority at the end of January, having been appointed by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.
In a previous incident, an official of the Customs Authority and his advisor were stopped by the Police in Ialomița County, being accused of unjustified use of the siren.
The current case comes against the backdrop of recent measures to reorganize Customs, which has been involved in several corruption scandals in recent years. The government approved a reorganization plan to reduce expenses and adjustments in the leadership structure.
