CNA fines Romania TV 75,000 lei for misinformation and incitement in broadcasts

The National Audiovisual Council (CNA) decided to sanction Romania TV with three fines and a warning, totaling 75,000 lei (approximately 15,000 euros).

The sanctions were imposed for misinformation, lack of balance, xenophobia, and incitement in broadcasts from December. The fine of 60,000 lei was applied for the shows "Punctul Culminant" and "Cutia Neagră," which contained erroneous information about Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. Additionally, Romania TV was fined 10,000 lei for xenophobia in a material about Asians and 5,000 lei for lack of balance in reports about the justice protests. The warning was issued after the station used derogatory terms for USR members, calling them "șobolani." The CNA analyzed the complaints and decided that these broadcasts do not comply with ethical standards.
