Romania has responded to the call of Serbian authorities for help in the fight against wildfires, sending a Black Hawk rescEU helicopter and 69 personnel from the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations.
The fires, which have already engulfed 3500 hectares of the Deliblato Sands Nature Reserve, have generated a cloud of smoke visible even from Romania, alarming residents in the western part of the country.
At the proposal of the Department for Emergency Situations, the National Committee for Emergency Situations approved international assistance for Serbia. The Black Hawk helicopter is part of the European rescEU reserve, intended for rapid intervention in emergency situations, including forest fires.
Romanian authorities are thus collaborating with Serbian law enforcement to extinguish the flames and protect the surrounding environment.
