Romania is facing the risk of losing the foreign workforce already present in the country, in favor of states like Spain, which are implementing legalization measures for hundreds of thousands of workers.
The Employers' Association of Labor Importers (PIFM) emphasizes that Romanian legislation is rigid and discouraging, which causes workers to leave for other countries that offer stability and clear integration prospects. While Spain offers amnesty for 500,000 workers, Romania continues to apply sanctions and restrictions, without providing solutions for those who are in an illegal situation due to bureaucratic reasons. PIFM states that Romania should adopt an amnesty law for foreign workers, considering that current measures only serve to drive away the workforce. Additionally, new regulations in the field of migration risk blocking over 70,000 applications for work permits, which could lead to significant budget losses. The association warns that for every month of delay in recruiting workers, the state loses approximately 130 million lei, and the delay in the recruitment process could generate losses of up to 780 million lei.
