The President of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean, announced that Romania is becoming a pillar of security in Europe, after the European Commission approved the country's application for funding through the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) program. Romania will receive approximately 17 billion EUR, the second largest amount allocated to a member state, after Poland. Abrudean emphasized that this funding will allow for the modernization of the army and the development of the defense industry, without affecting the national budget.

The SAFE program, with a total value of 150 billion EUR, supports member states in rapid investments in defense. The government confirmed that Romania will access this long-term loan, and among the funded projects are the highways in Moldova. President Nicușor Dan highlighted the strategic opportunity to revitalize the national defense industry.
