Starting from August 19, Romania will launch the national program 'Lift for Life', aimed at installing elevators in buildings without elevators that have at least three above-ground levels.
The law was published on July 20 and will come into force 30 days after publication. The program excludes properties classified as historical monuments and those with seismic risk RsI and RsII, but allows the installation of lifting platforms and ramps. Eligibility is based on the presence of a beneficiary, such as an elderly person or a person with disabilities, and priority will be given to buildings with multiple eligible residents.
The program will be carried out in two phases, the first being a pilot project of 18 months, which will finance 100 buildings. Funding from the state budget will be non-reimbursable, and local authorities will manage the works.
Municipalities will inventory the buildings without elevators within 6 months, and the implementation regulations must be approved within 90 days of the law coming into force.
