The Romanian Customs Authority, together with the Ministry of Finance, has officially submitted Romania's candidacy to host the European Customs Authority (EUCA), a new structure intended to become the European pillar in risk analysis and operational coordination of customs data. Romania, with one of the most extensive external borders of the European Union, manages significant volumes of goods annually, making it a crucial operational hub for the economic security of the EU. Romania's candidacy reflects its commitment to supporting a modern customs architecture that responds to the challenges of global trade and facilitates legitimate and predictable commerce.
AVR representatives emphasize that Romania supports the development of a uniform European customs system that reduces administrative burdens and protects consumer interests. Romania's trade priorities align with the strategic objectives of the Union, including the digitalization of customs processes and combating fraud. The European Commission has launched a call for applications, and Romania joins eight other member states in the competition to host the EUCA, which will centralize customs data and ensure unified risk management. The evaluation of the applications will be carried out by the Commission, and the results will be published on a dedicated website.
