Csaba Balint, a member of the BNR Administration Council, stated that Romania is undergoing an "economic maturity exam," 35 years after the transition to a market economy. Although the economy has made remarkable progress, the high twin deficits indicate vulnerabilities that require attention.

Correcting the budget deficit is crucial, and many companies seem to be developing and consolidating. Balint emphasizes the importance of effective governance that balances fiscal and monetary policy to maintain macroeconomic stability. He mentions that the independence of the central bank is essential for fulfilling its mandate, and good governance must protect financial stability as a public good.
