Romania has decided to expel an employee of the Russian Embassy in response to repeated violations of its airspace, following incidents from July 24-26, 2026, when the Romanian Army shot down three Russian drones that entered the national territory without authorization.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Ţoiu, summoned the Russian ambassador to the MAE headquarters, where he was shown fragments of the destroyed drones, confirmed to be of Russian origin. Romania expressed a firm protest against these illegal actions and emphasized the responsibility of the Russian Federation for the deterioration of regional security. The Russian diplomat was handed a verbal note requesting him to leave Romania within 5 days. Additionally, the MAE summoned the Romanian ambassador in Russia for consultations.
