President Nicușor Dan declared on Monday that Romania firmly condemns the cyberattacks carried out by groups controlled by the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, targeting EU member states and NATO allies, including Romania. These attacks are part of a hybrid campaign aimed at undermining democracies and the cohesion of the European Union.
In the context of sanctions imposed by the EU and the United Kingdom against Russian hackers, Dan assured that Romania will collaborate with international partners to strengthen cybersecurity. He also mentioned a cyberattack on Poland's energy network, attributed to the FSB's Center 16. British authorities have imposed sanctions against GRU officials involved in cyber threats, highlighting the seriousness of the situation. The UK's National Cyber Security Centre has warned about the methods used by Russian cyber actors, urging critical sectors to enhance their defenses.
