Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete announced on Tuesday that he will change the composition of the ministry’s committees responsible for recognizing and assessing doctors’ professional qualifications, after receiving numerous complaints about unjustified delays and administrative blockages.
The decision concerns the committees that assess qualification titles, training placements and certificates of complementary studies, including documents obtained in other European countries. The minister said he had reviewed cases reported by resident and specialist doctors and would replace bodies that delay the resolution of applications or fail to properly fulfill their duties.
Rogobete accused such delays of potentially discouraging Romanian doctors from returning to the country and integrating into the healthcare system. He stressed that professional and academic experience must be accompanied by responsibility, fairness and respect for doctors at the beginning of their careers.
The minister said he would not allow bureaucracy, personal egos or the interests of committee members to block doctors’ professional development. The changes are to be made in the immediate period ahead.
