In the Danube Delta, tourists have started to cancel their reservations due to RO-Alert messages, which have created a sense of panic. The owner of a lodging unit in Crișan, Dan Verbina, stated that the year 2026 is compromised for tourism in the Delta due to economic conditions and these messages. He emphasized that messages received at late hours, such as 4:00 AM, are not comfortable for tourists, and their repetition has led to a desensitization of the local population.
Verbina reported an incident in which American tourists, frightened by noises from Ukraine, called home to express their love, fearing they would not meet again. Tulcea, a county with many RO-Alert messages, is located near the border with Ukraine, where drone debris has been identified. The messages are transmitted by IGSU to warn the population about possible disasters, but the impact on tourism is significant. The Danube Delta, a UNESCO natural reserve, risks losing its tourist appeal due to these fears.
