The state mining company REMIN, in insolvency for 17 years and without real economic activity since 2007, will be subject to an independent evaluation, according to Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu. She emphasized that REMIN produces nothing and has total debts of 597 million lei, with a negative net asset of over 370 million lei.

The reported profit comes from the sale of assets and conservation contracts, not from mining. Although the law provides for bankruptcy in the case of a negative net asset, REMIN's debts have increased, and insolvency has been repeatedly extended. The Romanian state, as a shareholder and creditor, has been involved in managing this situation without taking decisive measures. Gheorghiu also mentioned environmental issues, with 118 tailings piles and cyanide settling ponds. By May 15, the Ministry of Economy will establish a schedule for evaluating the ponds and separating assets with economic potential. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the need to stop waste and make strategic decisions in the interest of Romania.
