Journalists from Recorder published on Thursday the investigation "Subservient Police", which analyzes the political control exercised over the Romanian Police through the method of empowerments. The data shows that over 600 leadership positions are temporarily occupied, allowing politicians to change the leaders who do not comply.

"The data collected by Recorder shows that out of the 41 county inspectorates, almost a third have inspectors-chief appointed through empowerment at the helm. If we extend the count to the level of deputy inspectors, it turns out that more than half of the police inspectorates in Romania have empowered people at the top," the Recorder investigation shows.

Three former ministers of the Interior have acknowledged that this method represents a vulnerability for the Romanian Police, and many officers who did not pass the competency exams have been appointed through empowerment.

The investigation was complicated by media pressure on union leader Vitalie Josanu, who appears in the investigation.

Additionally, the journalistic investigation refers to the case of chief commissioner Adrian Tuluc, head of the Bacau Municipal Police, who recently organized a wedding that gathered politicians, criminals, and businessmen with legal issues at the same table.

This situation highlights the problematic links between the Police and politics, affecting the integrity of the institution.
