The Secretary of State in the Ministry of Energy, Cristian Bușoi, stated that Reactor 2 of the nuclear power plant in Cernavodă can operate for only four to five days under the current conditions, where the flow of the Danube is low due to drought.

Authorities have initiated meetings to discuss the necessary works for diverting the Danube, a measure that could extend the operation of the plant. In the event that sufficient electricity is not obtained, Transelectrica may have to interrupt the supply of energy to large industrial consumers, prioritizing the protection of the population. Bușoi emphasized the importance of dialogue with large consumers to reduce consumption during peak hours. Romania is in a state of energy alert throughout August, and the Government has allocated seven million lei for urgent works on the Bala branch, in order to avoid the shutdown of the reactor.
