In an interview on Digi24, the Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, was asked several times whether he considers that Nicolae Ceaușescu was a patriot. Although he avoided giving a clear answer, he mentioned that Ceaușescu did not capitalize on the capacity and intelligence of Romania, sending capable people to the canal. Miruță acknowledged that the dictator pursued industrial development, but emphasized that his methods isolated Romania from other countries.
Journalist Florin Negruțiu insisted on the idea that a leader cannot be considered a patriot if he kills his people, and co-moderator Claudiu Pândaru added that Miruță's arguments are contradictory. In the end, the minister stated that Romania is doing better today, but he avoided giving a firm position regarding Ceaușescu's patriotism.
