The general mayor of Bucharest, Ciprian Ciucu, has initiated a project to reorganize the Local Police, which was approved on Tuesday by the General Council. The project provides for the elimination of 130 positions, representing 25% of the total of 514 existing positions, of which 21 were management positions.

Instead of a single deputy director, two positions will be established. This reorganization aims to reduce personnel expenses from the local budget, thus optimizing the use of public funds and increasing the financial sustainability of the institution.

The project was adopted with 45 votes in favor and is in accordance with Emergency Ordinance no. 7/2026, which aims to reduce budgetary expenditures. After the reorganization, the Local Police will have 384 positions, of which 26 will be management positions.
