PSD Deputy Daniel Georgescu has initiated a bill that has been approved by Parliament, stipulating that starting with the summer of 2026, 20% of the beaches on the Romanian coastline will become public, without sunbeds, canopies, or beach bars. Local authorities will be able to receive, through a Government Decision, sectors of beach for free use, where commercial activities will not take place. Georgescu emphasized that Romanians will regain the right to choose between relaxing on public beaches or paying for sunbeds. The project allows local authorities to organize cultural and sporting events on these beaches, which must be properly maintained, ensuring cleanliness and accessibility for people with disabilities. The project was voted on by the majority of deputies and will be sent to the President of Romania for promulgation.
