In Galați, hundreds of employees of the Liberty Steel Plant took to the streets to protest against the uncertainty of jobs and the increase in local taxes. The workers have been on technical unemployment since September 2025 and have not received the 75% salary allowances. The protesters, who chanted "We want to work, not to beg," are concerned about the fate of the company, which is on the brink of bankruptcy and is under investigation for fraud. The management of the plant is accused of embezzlement and tax evasion, resulting in significant losses for the company. Currently, the plant is in a preventive concordat procedure, and the court is reviewing a bankruptcy request, leaving the employees in an uncertain legal situation.
