Dan Motreanu, the general secretary of PNL, stated that the law and state institutions should not be transformed into instruments of political confrontation, in the context of the Constitutional Court's (CCR) decision that targets the mayor of Timișoara, Dominic Fritz. Motreanu emphasized the importance of separating legal issues from political ones, mentioning that the CCR's reasoning is essential for clarifying the application of sanctions.

He raised questions regarding the application of a new law for acts committed under a previous law, stressing that the rules must be clear and predictable. Regarding the political aspect, Motreanu criticized PSD for using the CCR's decision as a political victory, warning that such actions can turn legal situations into instruments of political struggle. He emphasized that the precedent created can affect anyone, not just political opponents, and reaffirmed that no one is above the law, but that the politicization of the law and state institutions must be avoided.
