Bitdefender specialists have identified a phishing campaign affecting WhatsApp users in Romania, presenting itself in the form of contests for children. The harmless messages, coming from known individuals, urge users to vote, but contain links that allow attackers to take control of their accounts. Once compromised, the accounts are used to request money from the victim's contacts. Romania is one of the most affected countries, along with Poland and Germany, with hundreds of fake links identified. Users are advised to be cautious and not to access suspicious links.
