The Romanian Association of Pharmaceutical Producers (PRIMER) has requested the Government to include pharmaceutical manufacturers in the category of critical sectors, alongside hospitals, in the context of possible reductions in electricity consumption.
The President of PRIMER, Dragoș Damian, emphasized that a power outage, even if brief, can compromise production processes, leading to significant losses of medicines and raw materials. He explained that pharmaceutical factories require specific climate and environmental control conditions to operate efficiently.
Currently, Romania is facing a shortage of medicines, most of which are imported. PRIMER brings together 18 major pharmaceutical factories in the country, which ensure the production of essential medicines for millions of patients. The request comes in the context of the current energy crisis and measures to limit electricity consumption for large consumers.
