On Thursday, the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, Daniel, officiated the Holy Liturgy at the historic Chapel of the Patriarchal Residence, on the occasion of the feast day of 'Saint George the Great Martyr'. In his sermon, the Patriarch highlighted the saint's popularity, mentioning that he is venerated in 12 countries, and presented his life and martyrdom, emphasizing his faith and courage. He also mentioned the institutions that have him as their patron, including the Archdiocese of Moldova and the Romanian Land Forces, and noted that Saint George is the patron of liver transplantation.

The Patriarch also discussed the historical importance of the saint for Romanians, mentioning that he was called to the battlefield by Stephen the Great. Additionally, he spoke about the history of the Chapel, originally built under the patronage of 'Saints Constantine and Helena', and about its restorations. In conclusion, the Patriarch congratulated all those who bear the name of Saint George, celebrated annually on April 23.
