In 2024, 16.9% of people in the European Union lived in overcrowded households, marking a slight decrease from 18.1% in 2014. However, over 30% of residents lived in overcrowded conditions in five EU member states. Romania reported the highest share, with 40.7% of citizens living in overcrowded households, followed by Latvia (39.3%), Bulgaria (33.8%), Poland (33.7%) and Croatia (31.7%).
