The prosecutors from the National Anti-Corruption Directorate have ordered the detention of Ana-Maria Badea, deputy general director of the General Directorate for the Authorization of Gambling, for committing the crime of bribery in a continuous form.
She is to be presented to the Bucharest Tribunal with a proposal for preventive arrest for 30 days. At the same time, several individuals, including inspectors from ONJN and Ana-Maria Badea's husband, have been placed under judicial control for various corruption offenses. The investigation revealed a mechanism through which ONJN officials received bribes from economic operators in the gambling sector to favorably resolve their requests.
Ana-Maria Badea allegedly received 2,500 euros to expedite the approval of new gambling games, while inspectors accepted amounts between 1,000 and 5,000 lei to avoid taking legal action against identified irregularities. The defendants are accused of complicity and bribery in this context.
