Omar Hayssam, known as one of the most notorious terrorists in Romania, has requested the Ilfov Tribunal to suspend the execution of his 24-year and four-month sentence for medical reasons.
The former Syrian businessman, convicted for the kidnapping of three Romanian journalists in Iraq in 2005, claims that his health has deteriorated, suffering from serious conditions such as Parkinson's disease, diabetes, and an inguinal hernia, which require specialized treatment. Hayssam has communicated through his lawyer that he urgently needs medical care, and the rejection of his request would mean the continuation of his detention.
The court is set to decide today whether it will accept his request.
