Acting Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu emphasized on Facebook that Metrorex transports over 600,000 people daily, but is facing serious management issues and underfunding.

The company's cumulative deficit between 2018 and 2025 has reached approximately 1.17 billion lei, and the real cost of a trip exceeds the fare charged. Gheorghiu mentioned that management has tolerated a rigid system, which has led to stagnation, and highlighted the difficulties in hiring new staff due to provisions in the Collective Labor Agreement.

She also highlighted the need to clean up the system internally before discussing fare increases.

In this context, she proposed a recovery management that would be capable of making difficult decisions and reorganizing the company to ensure its sustainability.
