President Nicușor Dan and Mirabela Grădinaru were received on Wednesday, September 30, at Prague Castle by the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, and his wife, Eva Pavlová. The official visit is taking place on the same day that the Parliament in Bucharest is voting on the Cabinet led by Siegfried Mureșan, after approximately five months of political crisis.
After the welcoming ceremony, Nicușor Dan and Petr Pavel held a bilateral meeting, followed by talks between the official delegations of Romania and the Czech Republic. The visit’s agenda includes meetings with the President of the Czech Senate, Miloš Vystrčil, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Tomio Okamura, and Prime Minister Andrej Babiš.
The President of Romania is also scheduled to meet with representatives of the Romanian community in the Czech Republic. According to the Presidential Administration, the discussions in Prague concern bilateral, European, and allied cooperation.
A central topic is Europe’s security, in the context of the war in Ukraine. The meetings’ agenda also includes the development of economic relations and investments between the two countries, including cooperation in the defense industry. The visit is taking place against the backdrop of a tense domestic agenda for Romania, where Parliament is being called upon to decide on the new Executive.
