The President of Romania had a phone conversation with the Prime Minister of Estonia, Kristen Michal, who thanked for the downing of a drone that entered Estonian airspace by a Romanian F-16 from the Carpathian Vipers Detachment.
This is the fourth Air Policing mission provided by the Romanian Air Forces in the Baltic states since 2007, with 6 F-16 aircraft and 101 military personnel. The incident occurred 3 days ago, in the context of electronic warfare interference and GPS jamming.
NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, praised the actions of the Romanian pilots, emphasizing the importance of tactical assessments. The Romanian pilot involved has been proposed for official decoration. Additionally, Latvia issued an air threat alert due to a drone, and NATO has scrambled fighter jets for the third consecutive day.
