President Nicusor Dan said on Saturday, in Bistrița-Năsăud County, that Romania is not “on the brink of apocalypse” and called for balance in assessing the country’s problems and progress. He made the statement at the inauguration of construction work to expand and modernize the Bistrița County Emergency Clinical Hospital.

The head of state argued that, despite difficulties such as corruption, the influence of interest groups, and the insufficient pace of digitalization, Romanians must also acknowledge the successes achieved. He cited as examples projects carried out with European funds and compliance with deadlines.

Nicusor Dan said these results belong to society as a whole and urged a realistic assessment of the situation in Romania. His message came after Serbia’s president reportedly said on Friday, at a summit held in Ukraine, that he was impressed by Romania’s development, having not visited the country for approximately 20 years.

The visit took place on the same day that the president announced he would sign the decree appointing Siegfried Mureșan as prime minister. The document is due to be published on Monday in the Official Gazette. Representatives of the county administration, lawmakers, ministers, and mayors attended the event in Bistrița.
